New Christmas Solo Piano Arrangements
I am proud to announce my collection of popular solo piano arrangements has grown. I just released my bluesy version of Santa Baby, modeled after the original Eartha Kitt version.
New Song Announcement
I am proud to announce my newest collaboration with Chicago’s own very talented jazz vocalist Zemrah. We were hard at work on composing and producing a song celebrating Thanksgiving Day. We will release it for Thanksgiving 2025. I will post it here as soon as it becomes available.
It has been one year since I became the new keyboarder for the great Bill Boris Trio!
Since then, we already performed over 40 gigs all over Chicagoland, plus some in Indiana. We had a blast!
The trio is led by Bill Boris, one of Chicagoland’s greatest fusion-jazz guitarists and composers/arrangers. The amazing Tyrone Blair plays the drums.

Thomas Gunther & Deborah Powell Duo and Trio
THE DUO THAT CAN SOUND LIKE A BAND
Jazz vocalist Deborah Powell and I have been collaborating in various musical settings for a long time. This summer, we came together to develop a show for just the two of us, keeping a listening audience in mind. What sets us apart from other jazz duos, though, is that we can sound like a traditional jazz duo while also resembling an entire band through modern keyboard technology. I am genuinely excited about this project! Click on the link below to learn more about the duo.
Summer 2022

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The CD YOU HIT THE SPOT (see above) has appeared on the European top 10 list for best jazz CDs of 2022!
My Work Anniversary at CJP
20 Years at Chicago Jazz Philharmonic
Time flies, as the saying goes
I can’t believe it has been 20 years since I prepared the first score and parts for Orbert Davis and his Chicago Jazz Philharmonic.
Check out what Orbert things about the work I’ve done for him in the video below
Orbert Davis is the co-founder, music director, composer, and orchestrator of the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, a 65-piece orchestra that fuses elements of jazz and classical music into what is known as “third-stream” music. In the above video, he explains that I have prepared all the music composed and arranged by Orbert for the orchestra over the past 20 years, starting from our very first rehearsal.
A Badge of Honor
Although my main passion is producing, composing, arranging, and performing music, working for Orbert Davis and the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic has been a badge of honor. I immensely respect Orbert as an artist and a remarkable human being who deeply cares about advancing the arts and helping others pursue their dreams. Therefore, 20 years ago, when he first told me about his dream of forming a Third Stream Orchestra, I expressed my desire to help him in any way possible. This led to a beautiful and lasting working relationship, as well as a deep friendship that I am very proud of.
I also had the pleasure of arranging, performing and recording music with Orbert. He is the featured artist on my first CD, which I produced after arriving in Chicago, entitled THE WINDY CITY.
